Charlie's 5th.

Charlie was ready and waiting for his 5th birthday.  He had remembered for weeks before that it was coming up soon and he was going to turn 5 in England, which must have seemed like a huge event as he often emphasised the England part when he said it.   Then it arrived!  We always decorate a spot in the house where we get all the gifts ready for the morning.  Streamers, balloons, party hats...  The important stuffed toys join in too, donning a hat and straddling a pressie or two.  A ‘clothes they need’ item on the gift list didn’t get included either, so it definitely was a toy, lego, lego, puzzle, book, wii game, toy eureka morning!

Charlie was in charge of the general order of the day.  He chose the film we saw together (Hop), the snacks (popcorn, chockies and slurpy-like frozen drink), the games, the dinner (chicken pie) and the birthday cake design (volcano and a dinosaur.  Not hard at all).

The dinosaur table adornment was an added bonus and safe to say, he had a great day!

Our little man needed no coercion to fall asleep that night, dreaming of adventures with his Star Wars comrades.  Happy to see turning 5 did not rob him of his sci-fi infatuation.  I think in some way, it gets him through each day.
