I Got the Job!!

We're on the Grand Central Railway, speeding along the tracks. Destination: Sunderland. At this point in our UK adventure, we could be up in the North for a few days, a few weeks, whatever.  Last week, Pete had a 15 min phone interview for an IT Hyper V contract role in Crawley, Sussex.  Doing well with that, he made it to a panel interview, 3 against 1. Any interview is nerve-wracking, but with the last formal job interview Pete went for being over 10 years ago, he was just a tad on edge with the whole thing. To soften the experience though, the panel interview was again over the phone so no underarm sweat-marks or facial tics to share with potential bosses. (Not that Pete has facial tics mind you, but oh, the things you could hide over the phone!!)

Thrilled and relieved.

How did he go?  "I did alright, but..."

After interviews we remember what we should have said, what we didn't convey as well as we‘d have liked. Wishing for an opportunity to explain something more. Why you'd be perfect for the job.  That panel interview was a day or two ago now.  There were of course other jobs being advertised and we had all the confidence in the world that Pete would secure one sooner or later, but still... once there’s mental energy invested, the waiting is a killer.

So we’re on the train, ears popping from the pressure of speeding through train tunnels, on our way to Pete’s home town, when the phone rings.
